Baskit

An intelligent grocery basket

UI/UX Design

About

As someone who recently moved to the USA, I’ve experienced the challenges of adjusting to a new environment while managing tight budgets. At the Immigrant Learning Center, I’ve met many inspiring individuals navigating similar paths, yet struggling with rising food prices and limited incomes. I noticed that health-conscious eating often takes a backseat in the face of affordability concerns.

Problem

Food prices continue to rise, and health concerns are growing. How can people manage their grocery budgets while making healthier food choices?

Survey

I conducted an online survey using Google Forms to analyze patterns and similarity in what the potential users may want. 24 participants helped me better understand the problem

Impact:

When the community I designed for tells my story

Months after the project concluded, The Immigrant Learning Center — the organization whose students inspired Baskit — reached out to feature the project in their newsletter. Not as a research partner, but as a storyteller. They wanted to share how one student's struggle with grocery budgets and food access became the seed of something meant to help others navigate the same uncertainty.

Baskit is still taking shape as part of my design journey — but its origin story, told in the words of the community it was built for, is the clearest confirmation I have that this was a problem worth solving.
